31 Tutors Trained By Mkapa Foundation To Reinforce Production Of Health Workers In Tanzania

The Benjamin W. Mkapa Foundation (BMF) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW) in 11th – 22nd May 2015 conducted training to 31 tutors from various health institutions in Morogoro. The training which is financially supported by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Round 9 is part of BMF’s program of Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) which targets to close the gap of skilled health workers availability.

The training aimed at building capacity and equipping tutors who are mainly health professional, with better teaching skills that will facilitate increased number of health graduates who will therafter proceed in providing better health services to the Tanzanians. BMF recruit the said tutors who most of them are newly graduated health professionals and they are placed under contract, whilst being deployed to work in health training institutions. In addition tutors were provided with teaching equipment such as laptops to assist them to perform their work efficiently.

This is the fourth phase of the training carried by the Foundation, which involved 31 tutors. Following the trainings given to the tutors they are being deployed to work in  health trainings institutions providing allied health courses such as clinical officers and clinical assistants. Such training institutions include Bagamoyo NTS, Kilosa COTC, Kigoma COTC, Maswa CATC, Musoma CATC, Mkomaindo, Nachingwea NTS, Newala NTS, Mafinga COTC and Sumbawanga CATC.

The hired tutors who are varied health professional cadres include 14 medical officer and 17 Nurses.
