Dr. Ellen Mkodnya-Senkoro, CEO of Mkapa Foundation urged the media editors to create more sustainable cooperation with organization that support development of health sector in the country. This was said during editors breakfast session with BMF management team which took place on 27th July 2017 at BMF’s offices in Dar es Salaam.
The half a day session was attended by editors from various electronic and print media to mention a few are Mwananchi, The Guardian, The Citizen, TBC 1, ITV, Clouds Media, Millard Ayo and many more. This session aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between the foundation and media. The session also gave a platform for BMF to share progress updates, achievements attained and challenges over the course of 11 year of operationalization of various projects
“Media is an important component for spearheading development hence we urge you for your more support to raise awareness on the on various issues that affects the health sector” said Dr. Senkoro

Few major milestone we have attain over 11 years period highlighted by Dr. Ellen includes improvement of provision of delivery of primary health care service through construction of 480 health workers staff houses in 51 district within 17 regions, improvement of provision of pregnant mother and newborn service through construction of 11 operation theater in 9 district within 4 regions and improvement in HIV/AIDs and Tuberculosis Services through renovation of 13 TB diagnostic center and 13 laboratory for detecting TB in 13 region in the country. In addition the numerous challenges highlighted includes adequate budget in the districts to fulfill their commitment of ensuring newly constructed theaters and to facilitate availability of skilled health workers in the health centers.

Moreover, Noor Shija, editor of mwananchi newspaper applauded Mkapa Foundation for their great contribution to the government’s effort in improving health systems in the country mainly in hard to reach areas. He insisted that health sector still faces critical challenges, hence more interventions have to be implemented to address them.
