Glory has landed to the community of Itilima DC as the obstetric equipped theater at Nkoma health facility became official functional since it was handed over to the local government authority in Itilima on 8th July 2017. The first caesarian section operation was conducted to a pregnant woman on the evening of 18th October 2017 which marked the beginning of the service.

This Nkoma Health Facility obstetric theater was constructed through Mkapa Fellow Program II under financial support from the government of the People’s Republic of Japan through the Embassy of Japan in Tanzania and was handed over on 8th July 2017 in a ceremony that was graced by the Settlor of BMF, H.E Benjamin W. Mkapa along him was the ambassador of Japan in Tanzania, Amb. Masaharu Yoshida, Mama Anna Mkapa, former first lady, Hon. Ummy Mwalimu, Minister of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, Amb. Charles Sanga, Chairman of BMF’s Board of Trustees and Simiyu regional authority

Speaking after the emergency operation successful took place, the DMO of Itilima DC, commended the effort to Mkapa Foundation to support the Government of Tanzania in improving health services in the country mainly in underserved areas.

“Thanks to BMF for this support, we are thankful for Pallet Waryoba (fellow), he has been very helpful especially in providing anesthetic services”, said DMO

Apart from the construction of the theater, BMF through Mkapa Fellows Program II has recruited and deployed 2 health workers famously know as Mkapa Fellows to strengthen human resource at Nkoma health facility.
