The Benjamin W. Mkapa Foundation has celebrated reaching 11 million people directly and indirectly through various interventions carried by the Foundation. This celebration was held amid the 10th consultative meeting between BMF board of Trustees, Management Team and staffs which took place at White Sands Hotel in Dar es Salaam on 24th January 2018.

The half day event was graced by H.E Benjamin W. Mkapa, the Settlor of BMF and Former President of the URT. The event was also joined by representative from Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children and other government institution such as TACAIDS and NACP. The program of the event started with an internal meeting to reflect the Foundation’s achievements attained over the financial year 2016/17, the challenges and opportunities that arises in the course of program implementation.
Presenting at the meeting, the CEO of BMF, Dr. Ellen Mkondya-Senkoro shared the Foundations progress updates until June 2017 in relation to Programmes, Financial and Institutional developments. The presentation reflected the major BMF achievements within each Key Result Areas (KRAs), encountered challenges that were noted as Opportunities for Development and the Way forward.
Also the Managing Director of Imara Horizon, Mr. Deusdedit Rutazaha gave an update on the progress of Imara Horizon Company, which is a subsidiary company established as a special purpose vehicle for BMF.
BMF’s Board of Trustees member whom acted as the chairperson of the meeting Dr. Yahya Ipuge speaking at the 10th annual consultative meeting held on 24th January 2018 in Dar.
Moreover the internal meeting the representative from the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, shared status and factors surrounding the health sector in regards to Human Resource for Health. It was observed that there is still a critical challenge in relation to the production of health workers and the ratio to which they are absorbed by the government.

Preceding the internal meeting the Settlor joined all BMF’s staff for a get together lunch to celebrate reaching 11 million people through various interventions carried over the cause of 11 years of operationalization. The celebration went along with giving awards for best employee, leadership and long term service awards.

The 2016/17 best employee award went to Ms. Christina Godfrey – Program Officer Policy and Advocacy, Leadership award was presented to Dr. Happiness Wilbroad – Program Manager Community and Social Welfare. Ms. Rahel Sheiza – Director of Programs and Hyasinta Stephen – Office Management Assistant were honored for the 10 years and Mr. Hija Matotola – Logistic Assistant Cum Driver was was honored for 5 years with the Foundation
