The Benjamin W. Mkapa foundation (BMF) held its 4th Stakeholders’ meeting in November 2017 at the White Sands Hotel in Dar es Salaam. This half a day meeting which was graced by Hon. Josephat Kandege, Deputy Minister of State in the President’s office – Regional Administration and Local Government accompanied by H.E Benjamin W. Mkapa, the Settlor of BMF and Former President of the URT was sponsor by Bank M. Amongst them the meeting was also attended by Ambassadors from USA, Canada, Kuwait, & Japan, representatives from development partners USAID, Irish AID, UNFPA. UNICEF, representative from the government, partner NGOs to mention a few include AMREF, MDH, Uongozi Institute, NACOPHA, & Jphiego. Also the presence of our corporate partners was felt.

This meeting which carried two major objectives which were to share with our stakeholders the progress, challenges, lessons learnt, best practices and vision of the institution to the coming period and second to receive feedback from stakeholders regarding the institutional performance, vision and organisation development was opened up with a plenary discussion on the “What are the strategic Options for enhancing employment and productivity for the HWs particularly in underserved areas to promote access to quality services”, which gave platform for the participant to share their views and experience on the discussed topic.

Addressing the delegation as the officiate the meeting, the GOH, Hon. Josephat Kendege, commended BMF’s efforts in complementing the government in strengthening health services and systems mainly in the underserved areas. He further assured continuous collaboration and partnership from the government.
“The government acknowledges the support you have continued to give in strengthening the health sector. On behalf of the 5th phase government I assure you our continue support in the implementation for various project aiming at developing the health sector in the country”, stated Hon. Kandege.

Giving his remarks, the Settlor of BMF, H.E Benjamin W. Mkapa, clarified how Tanzania recognizes and institutionalizes Public- Private Partnership (PPP) as one of the key strategy for accelerating Universal Health Coverage. He further insisted on more private public partnership to accelerate the development in the health sector.
“I hereby plea to the stakeholders that as we proceed to contribute in the implementation of these noble strategies, we need to timely establish economically viable strategies and improve or redefine our current approaches and a comprehensive road map”, urged H.E Benjamin W. Mkapa.
Giving the note appreciation on behalf of BMF, the Chairman of BMF Board of Trustees, Amb. Charles A. Sanga, thanked the 4th Phase government under the leadership of H.E Dr. Jakaya M. Kikwete for its strong support, he also commended the 2 years efforts and support of the 5th phase government under leadership of H.E Dr. John Pombe Magufuli. He further appreciated the support and cooperation from donors, development partners, implementing partners and cooperate sector.
