BMF Board of Trustees
The Benjamin W. Mkapa Foundation governance structure comprises of the Settlor and the Board of Trustees that are responsible for the governing oversight and leadership of the Institution. The Board of Trustees are appointed by the BMF Settlor, His Excellency Benjamin William Mkapa and below is the list of the current Board of Trustees.

Dr. Adeline Kimambo – Chairperson
Dr. Adeline Immanuel Kimambo, a Public Health Specialist has over 40 years’ experience in the health sector. She obtained her Doctor of Medicine degree at Muhimbili Medical College of the University of Dar-es-Salaam in 1976, and Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health at the same institution in 1982 and subsequently undertook several courses in Health Services Management at various institutions. She has sound leadership and management skills obtained from holding different high-level positions at district, regional and national levels. Dr. Kimambo is the Co-chair of the PPHF Executive Board and PPP Technical Working Group.

Ambassador Tuvako Manongi – Trustee
Ambassador Tuvako Manongi holds a Bachelors degree of law (LLB) from the University of Dar es Salaam, a postgraduate degree on Maritime Administration from the World Maritime University in Molmo – Sweden and is also a graduate from the Centre for Foreign Relations in Dar es Salaam. He has served as a Diplomat in various capacities the most recent one being the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United Republic of Tanzania to the United Nations, New York, from July 2012 to December 2016. He was also a lead for the Tanzanian delegation to the UNDP Executive Board from 2014 to 2016 and has held other high-level positions within and outside the country. As of current he serves as a Non – Executive Director with the United Bank for Africa Tanzania Ltd. (UBA) and as an advocate of the High Court of Tanzania.

Mrs. Blandina Nyoni – Trustee
Blandina Nyoni, She holds an Advanced Diploma in Certified Accountancy, Financial Management (CFM), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant, Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) and a Master’s Degree of Business Administration from University of Manchester in UK. She has more than 26 years of working experience from the Government, International and National Organization which enable her to attain highest position to mention a few Accountant General for the United Republic of Tanzania (Nov 2000 – May 2007), Permanent Secretary – Ministry of Natural Resources & Tourism by then (May 2007 – Nov 2008) and Permanent Secretary – by then Ministry of Health & Social Welfare (Dec 2008 – Aug 2013).

Dr. Ali Uki – Trustee
Dr. Ali Uki is a lawyer by professional holding a degree in law from Tanzania, Masters of Law in Intellectual Property from the School of Law, Turin University in Italy and a PHD in law from Zanzibar University. He currently works as the Principal of the Law School of Zanzibar. He was born and grew in Zanzibar and has more than 30 years of working experience as a teacher, journalist, lawyer, lecturer and as of current working as a head of department – common law . He has also been actively participating in legal researches and has contributed to a number of academic articles and chapters in different journals and books in Tanzania and East Africa region.

Dr. Ali Salim Ali – Trustee
Dr. Ali Salim is a Doctor by profession holding the East Africa Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography – DDR from the University of Dar es Salaam, Degree of Doctor of Medicine – MD from the Crimea State University and Masters of Medicine in Internal Medicine – MMED from the University of Zambia. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma – HIV/AIDS Management – PgD from Stellenbosch University and a Masters of Philosophy – HIV/AIDS Management – Mphil from the Stellenbosch University. Dr. Ali Salim has over 20 years vast experience having worked at different capacities including being the Director of curative services MOH Zanzibar- Tanzania, he previously served as the Executive Director at Zanzibar AIDS Commission (ZAC) and as Executive Director at the Mnazi Mmoja Hospital in Zanzibar. He is the current Chairperson of the Board of Trustees for ZAC.

Mr. Lawrence Mafuru – Trustee
Lawrence Mafuru, is a Certified Banker from Chartered Institute of Banking UK, Certified Treasury Dealer- ACI Financial Markets and an MBA (Finance) holder from the University of Dar es Salaam. Apart from these Mr, Mafuru has received other field trainings and certificates from in and outside the country. He is a qualified and experienced expert in Banking and Finance for over 15 years with sound Leadership and Management skills obtained from holding different high-level positions in different financial institutions. To mention few, he has worked with Standard Chartered Bank Tanzania, National Bank of Commerce (Barclays Africa Group), Government of Tanzania, President’s Delivery Bureau – President’s Office, Ministry of Finance and Planning- Government of Tanzania as well as FBME Bank Ltd. Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Mr. Mafuru is a Founder and former Managing Partner at Bankable Tanzania Ltd (Nov 2017-Nov 2021). He currently serves as the Deputy Permanent Secretary-Economic Management Policies at the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

Mr. Modou M. Gaye – Trustee
Mr. Gaye holds a Masters of Science in Computer Information Systems from Pace University, White Plains, USA. He has over 20 years’ experience in the field of IT both in and outside the country. Mr. Gaye has worked with Raha.com. Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania as Internet Technician, MCI WorldCom, Springfield, MO, USA as a Customer Service Representative, FUJIFILM Medical Systems, Stamford, CT in USA holding positions of Helpdesk Analyst as well as Systems Administrator. As of current he is working with Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH), Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania as a Director of Information and Communication Technology.

Rt. Judge Susana Bernard Mkapa – Trustee
Rt. Judge Susana Bernard Mkapa She holds a Master’s Degree of Laws and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and has attended various trainings and courses linked to Legal matters, Leadership and Corporate Management at various institutions. She served as the Judge of the High Court of Tanzania (Mediation Division and Moshi Registry) at different times, also at the Ministry of Finance and Planning initially as Legal Officer, then as the Director of Legal Services and later as the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Services). In addition, Rt Judge Susana formerly served as a member of Fair Competition Tribunal as well as Member of Board of Directors at TanTrade.

Dr. Ellen Mkondya-Senkoro – Board Secretary to the BMF Board
Dr. Ellen Mkondya-Senkoro is a Medical Doctor graduate and Public health specialist with twenty (25) years working experience in the health sector having worked with the Government, the United Nations and Non-Government Organizations environment. She is currently the CEO to the Benjamin William Mkapa Foundation providing stewardship and strategic leadership since its establishment in 2006 to date where excellence has been registered in strengthening the Institution itself and advancing Health Systems Strengthening, HIV/AIDS and Maternal Newborn Health (MNH) services in underserved areas of Tanzania as well as improvement of related policy and strategic frameworks. She is also a board member and advisory member of various organizations.
