During his lifetime, the late President Mkapa firmly believed in building strong institutions and dedicated his time, energy, and considerable efforts to strengthening them. He further highlighted the Foundation\u2019s commitment to the Human Resources for Health (HRH) agenda, recognizing its critical role in addressing healthcare challenges and strengthening health systems.<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"sub-title \"><br> Hon. Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi described the late Benjamin Mkapa as a courageous and visionary leader who faced challenges head-on and championed long-term development. Reflecting on the Summit theme, \u201cFrom Legacy to the Future: Youth-Led Leadership, Health Systems, and Human Capital for Africa,\u201d he emphasized the importance of investing in health as a foundation for building strong human capital. He noted that achieving sustainable economic and social development requires ensuring good health and longer life expectancy for all through improved nutrition, disease prevention, quality healthcare, and support across all stages of life. <br> \"\nLet me take this opportunity to sincerely Congratulate the Benjamin Mkapa Foundation for its investment in preparing future health leaders, particularly through the successful Mkapa Fellows Program and the forthcoming Mkapa Health Leadership Programme, which is set to be launched soon.\nThis is a critical area that, unfortunately, has not received the attention it deserves despite its importance, especially at a time when global health challenges are increasing and preparedness for disease outbreaks has become an absolute necessity.\nHowever, we need to go even further by strengthening coordinated, efficient, and resilient health systems capable of preventing crises before they occur. The answer is clear. It lies in strengthening our health systems, investing in human resources, and creating opportunities that enable young people to realize their full potential.\nBy empowering youth and equipping them with the skills, resources, and leadership opportunities they need, we can build resilient health systems and secure a healthier, more prosperous future for Africa\"<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"sub-title \">\"On the part of Zanzibar, we have been implementing this vision through a range of reforms aimed at strengthening the foundations of our health system. Working closely with the Government and development partners, the Foundation has supported more than 19,000 health workers, including 11,000 Community Health Workers, strengthened the Mkapa Fellows Program, provided scholarships for health professionals, improved health infrastructure and service quality, and contributed to policy development and institutional capacity building.
