For many people living in rural Tanzania, access to specialist surgical care remains out of reach. A simple operation often requires travelling long distances, paying costs many families cannot afford, and waiting months for treatment. For some, those barriers mean living with pain, preventable disability or life-threatening conditions that continue to worsen over time.\nFor five days in June, that reality changed.\nThe Benjamin William Mkapa Foundation, in collaboration with the Government of Tanzania and the Benjamin Mkapa Hospital, brought specialist healthcare directly to the community through the Masasi Health Camp, ensuring that life-changing services reached people where they were needed most. Patients no longer had to make long and costly journeys in search of care. Instead, they found experienced specialists, modern equipment and compassionate treatment close to home.
