BMF History

The Benjamin William Mkapa Foundation is a Trust and non-profit making Institution, established and incorporated under the Trustees Incorporation Ordinance, CAP 375.


2005

Establishment

Started with “Mkapa Fellows Programme” in July 2005. The programme was initiated by the Former President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E Benjamin William Mkapa and the Former President of the United States of America, H.E. William Jefferson Clinton, through the financial support of the Government of the Royal Kingdom of Norway.


2006

Expanding

Mkapa Foundation gradually began recruitment of the Management team and staff. Collaboratively the Board of Trustees, Management and Staff proceeded undertaking and expanding into various initiatives that focus on addressing Human Resource for Health challenges and accelerating HIV/AIDS and TB prevention, care, and treatment services, as well as Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn Child and Adolescent health services within Tanzania, and of recent the Emerging diseases responses such as COVID-19.


2019

Third Strategic Plan

BMF redefines its vision as “ Healthy lives and well- being for all in Tanzania and the rest of Africa” as it releases its 5 years Strategic Business Plan (July 2019- June 2024) of the Mkapa Foundation.


2021

Mkapa Legacy

The Benjamin Mkapa Foundation (BMF) in collaboration with the Government of Tanzania will be commemorating the life and legacy of the late, His Excellency Benjamin William Mkapa, Former President of Tanzania, Founder, and Settlor of the Foundation who passed away on 23rd July 2020.
