Dear Friends & Partners,

Every 1st of December we take a moment to reflect and remember those living with HIV and AIDS and those we have lost due to AIDS epidemic. According to UNAIDS the SDG goal is to end the epidemic by 2030 despite the challenges that lie ahead, thus an emphasis placed on this year theme of “Access Equity Rights Now”.

Like many others, the Mkapa Foundation remains committed in this global fight, whereas through demand driven initiatives in Tanzania, hundred thousands of people living with HIV including pregnant mothers, have accessed prevention and treatment for HIV and AIDS.  Our efforts have extended to integrating Tuberculosis prevention and treatment into HIV Programs, as well as reinforcing the community and health systems, especially in rural areas.

Despite the enormous efforts of the Government and its partners, more innovative measures need to be designed and rolled out in order to achieve equitable access across different segment of population. Much emphasis should be put in ensuring every person diagnosed with HIV has free and easy access to comprehensive treatment, prevention, care and support services. In addition, more resources should be allocated and all HIV stakeholders need to unite and overcome injustices caused by violence and the exclusion of people on the basis of gender, class, race, nationality, age, geographic location, sexual orientation and HIV status.

We call upon all the partners & stakeholders for their support in accelerating the end of HIV and AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
