Ms. Rehema Sincha Thimani
Mkapa Legacy Community Health Workers Award 2024
The candidate who won this award is Miss. Rehema Sincha Thimani from Buzuruga street, Nyamagana ward in Ilemela Municipal of Mwanza region. Rehema visited 463 household in her neighborhood in 2023 of which she successfully referred 22 children with severe fever and 22 with malnutrition to health centers; supported pregnant mother to the health facility for ANC visit and delivery; facilitated referrals for children under 5 years for vaccination and identification of cholera cases. Moreover, she formed two women groups which engage in the production of nutritious flour and vegetable gardening to improve children's health and income.
Mkapa Legacy Community Health Workers Award: This award is also presented for the second time by Mkapa Legacy Initiative, and it focuses on the transformative community-driven solution based on creativity in improving and enhancing the delivery of community health services.
The process of nominating this candidate for the award was co facilitated by MoH, PORALG, Regional and Council Secretariat of all regions in Tanzania where an advert for this ward was done and a total of 328 applications were received and scrutinized from council, regional and lastly national level where one winner with all criteria set including relevance of the problem identified and how it was addressed at the community level through team work, the scalability and sustainability of the idea were used.
