HRH Conference

In the spirit of continuing the legacy of the 3rd President of the United Republic of Tanzania, His Excellency Late Benjamin William Mkapa who passed away on 23rd July 2020, the Benjamin W. Mkapa Foundation (BMF) has developed an institutional framework that continues to establish a living and maintainable impact on the self-sustainable development initiatives of the United Republic of Tanzania. The Mkapa Legacy commemoration framework is operating under the United Republic of Tanzania leadership and priorities in close collaboration with the Mkapa Foundation.

The first two Mkapa Legacy commemoration events (2021 & 2022) have set a fundamental base towards enhancing innovative and aligned multi-prong strategies that have contributed to the ongoing structural, systemic, and service delivery improvement and progress towards meeting the set national health outcome in a multisectoral approach. This year, the Mkapa Foundation in collaboration and under the overall leadership of the United Republic of Tanzania plans to host the 3rd Mkapa Legacy Summit from 29th to 31st July 2024.

This entails hosting a half-day high-level Mkapa Legacy Summit on 31st July 2024, which will be preceded by a 2-day National Human Resource for Health Conference on 29th and 30th July.

The two-day HRH conference themed Health Workforce: A Cornerstone to Resilient and Sustainable Development Agenda will support various presentations grouped in different plenary and concurrent sessions in line with the conference theme and sub-themes. The sessions will bring together technical teams and front liners – Health Care Workers, Senior government, donor communities, private sectors, Academicians, and researchers to name a few, thus, generating diversities of perspectives, plans, and synergies.

At the end, the conference aims:

To provide a platform to accelerate the implementation of the National HRH Acceleration Plan 2023- 2026 and related policies on recruitment, retention, performance, education, training, and management of the health workforce.

To identify and advocate for key priorities and increased resources, both national and international, to be incorporated in the local and national frameworks from 2025 and beyond, including the Tanzania Development Vision 2050.
