Welcome to Mkapa Legacy Summit 2024

"Mkapa Legacy - Taking Local Sustainability to New Horizons."

In the spirit of continuing the legacy of the 3rd President of the United Republic of Tanzania, His Excellency Late Benjamin William Mkapa who passed away on 23rd July 2020, the Benjamin W. Mkapa Foundation (BMF) has developed institutional framework) that continues to establish living and maintainable impact to the self-sustainable development initiatives of the United Republic of Tanzania. The Mkapa Legacy commemoration framework, is operating under the United Republic of Tanzania  leadership and priorities in close collaboration with the Mkapa Foundation.

This year, the Mkapa Foundation in collaboration and under overall leadership of the United Republic of Tanzania plans to host the 3rd Mkapa Legacy Summit for 3 days, from 29th to 31st July 2024.  This entails hosting a half-day high level Mkapa Legacy Summit on 31st July 2024, which will be preceded with a 2-day National Human Resource for Health Conference on 29th and 30th July.

Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, the President of United Republic of Tanzania,
is expected to be the Guest of Honor

The theme for this year is, Mkapa Legacy- Taking Local Sustainability to New Horizons.

This theme is inclined to the fact that there is growing global recognition that demographic changes are critical to human capital development and to countries development prospects. Sustaining a robust and resilient health system is critical in combatting communicable and the increasing non- communicable health conditions/diseases; ensuring national and global health security; adoption of fast-growing technology and Artificial Intelligence and on addressing the effects of Climate change on Health. Similarly, advancement and prioritization on gender equality is a cornerstone to achieving socio-economic development.

Furthermore, the theme is aligning to the fact that Tanzania National Development Vision 2025 which was inaugurated in year 2005 by the then President of URT, H.E Benjamin Mkapa, is on its countdown phase, and the major achievements and lessons learnt from this framework is geared towards informing the upcoming National Development Vision 2050 of Tanzania. Moreover, there are six (6) years remaining to clock the SDG and UHC goals by 2030. This Mkapa Legacy platform will allow reflection on the set goals particularly, those related to health and well-being.

Thus, keeping the above into perspective, we are all set for a new horizon, locally and globally which fundamentally requires adaptive, inclusive and resilient leadership at all levels and centrally placing localization for sustainable development.
