Mkapa Legacy Summit: Taking Local Sustainability to New Horizons
Dar es Salaam, July 29-31, 2024- The Benjamin William Mkapa Foundation (BMF) hosted the 3rd Mkapa Legacy Summit in commemoration of the life and legacy of the Late His Excellency Benjamin William Mkapa, former President of the United Republic of Tanzania and Founder of the Mkapa Foundation. The commemoration included the 2nd National Human Resource for Health as a pre-summit event (July 29 & 30, 2024)
Hosted by the current BMF Settlor, H.E. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar and Chair of the Revolutionary Council, the summit brought together high-level dignitaries led by the guest of honor, Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, the President of the United Republic of Tanzania. Other dignitaries included the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Kassim Majaliwa Majaliwa (MP), Former President of Zanzibar Dr. Mohammed Shein, Minister for Health in Tanzania mainland, Hon. Ummy Mwalimu, the Minister for Health in Zanzibar, Hon. Nassor Mazrui, and the family of the Late Benjamin Mkapa led by his spouse, Hon. Anna Mkapa.
During the first 2 days of the summit, a National Human Resource for Health Conference was held, containing a series of speeches, presentations, and panel discussions as part of the agenda. The conversations were centered around six key thematic areas:
- National, Regional, and International Partnerships
- Private Sector Partnership Models for Domestic Financing of HRH
- HRH Optimization, Performance, and Productivity Towards Universal Health Insurance
- Technological Advancements in the Health Sector, Including Artificial Intelligence
- Health-Climate Integration
- Integrated and Coordinated Community Health Workers Program
