Dar es Salaam, December 14, 2024 – The Benjamin William Mkapa Foundation (BMF) celebrated a momentous occasion with the formal inauguration of its new Board of Trustees. The event was presided over by the Foundation’s Settlor, H.E. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, at the Mkapa Health Plaza, Dar es Salaam.
The newly inaugurated Board of Trustees, chaired by Hon. Ambassador Liberata Mulamula, is set to lead the Foundation’s strategic direction for the next four years. Their leadership comes at a critical time as BMF embarks on implementing its Fourth Strategic Business Plan (July 2024 – June 2030).
In his keynote address, H.E. Dr. Mwinyi commended the outgoing Board for their exemplary leadership under the chairmanship of Dr. Adeline Kimambo. The outgoing Board’s tenure (2019–2024) was marked by remarkable achievements, including the successful construction of the Mkapa Health Plaza in collaboration with Imara Horizon Company (IHC), the establishment of the Endowment Fund, the launch of the Mkapa Legacy initiatives, and additionally, the outgoing Board successfully mobilized TZS 170 billion, exceeding financial targets to 9%.
“The outgoing Board has demonstrated unwavering commitment, transparency, and accountability, laying a strong foundation for this institution,” noted H.E. Dr. Mwinyi. He also highlighted the importance of innovation and strategic partnerships in ensuring the Foundation’s continued impact.
Hon. Ambassador Mulamula expressed her gratitude for the trust placed in her leadership and pledged to build on the Foundation’s success by fostering collaboration with the Government of Tanzania, development partners, and other stakeholders. “We are determined to uphold the legacy of H.E. Benjamin William Mkapa by ensuring BMF continues to transform lives through sustainable health solutions,” she remarked.
As part of the ceremony, members of the outgoing Board were honored with certificates of appreciation for their invaluable contributions. The smooth succession plan was further solidified as the new Board received critical institutional documents, including the five-year Board performance report and the strategic plan.
The event was graced by the presence of Mama Anna Mkapa, widow of the late Benjamin William Mkapa, Donors, development partners, government leaders, and representatives from the private sector. Their presence underscored the shared commitment to advancing health equity and access for all Tanzanians.
