We are making remarkable strides in strengthening the capacity of healthcare professionals across Tanzania, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to provide life-changing care for children living with clubfoot. Through specialized training in the Ponseti method, the Foundation is not only building technical expertise but also expanding hope and opportunities for children who would otherwise face lifelong mobility challenges.
Over the past months, more than 50 health professionals from Mbeya, Dodoma, and Mwanza participated in intensive trainings covering all critical stages of clubfoot management. These included casting, basic and advanced interventions, and tenotomy, delivered through a combination of theoretical instruction and hands-on practical sessions. This approach ensures that participants not only understand the principles behind the treatment but also develop the confidence and practical competence to apply them effectively in their clinical settings.
During a focused three-day basic training, over 40 participants from various hospitals and health facilities enhanced their foundational understanding of clubfoot treatment. The programme included pre- and post-training assessments to objectively measure the knowledge and skills gained, ensuring that every participant leaves the training equipped to deliver high-quality care.
The learning experience was highly interactive, combining lectures, group discussions, practical demonstrations, and question-and-answer sessions. This participatory approach allowed participants to engage deeply with the content, share experiences, and address real-life challenges faced in the treatment of children with clubfoot. By bridging theory and practice, the Foundation is helping healthcare providers translate their training directly into improved patient care and outcomes.
The success of these trainings has been strengthened through collaboration with key health sector partners, including Miracle Feet, the Ministry of Health, Tanzania, and the Prime Minister’s Office, Regional Administration, and Local Authorities. Together, we share a commitment to ensuring that children across the country have access to timely, effective, and inclusive clubfoot treatment.
