Health Financing

We have innovatively designed and implemented health financing interventions that focus on incentivizing the provision of primary health care including proposed financial solutions to accelerate access to health and related services through advocating for private sector engagement in health financing.

We successfully mobilized more than US $ 2million from private sector to construct operating theatres, equipping PHC with medical equipment , provision of in-service nurse midwifery scholarships to 100 nurses and deployment of skilled health workers (Mkapa Fellows) to Primary Health Care levels.

We continue accelerating the implementation of universal health insurance scheme by raising awareness in rural settings, thus far our efforts contributed to Tanzanians household being registered in the Improved Community health Fund insurance.

In addition, BMF has been actively engaged in the policy dialogue in relation to recently approved National Universal Health Insurance legal instrument. To enhance sufficient and timely disbursement of funds to providers, BMF has continued integrating in the national financial systems by utilizing the Direct Health Facility Financing mechanism.

Furthermore, BMF in close collaboration with the Government and Implementing Partners continue to provide technical assistance and co- leading in solicitation of health sector financing through solicited and unsolicited proposals to Development Partners.

Health financing has been a cornerstone of the BMF efforts to support the GoT in accelerating universal health coverage.
