Health Workforce

Despite presence of qualified health workers in the labour market, for years there has been low ability to formally employ qualified skilled health workers to serve in the health facilities thus resulting into 63% shortage of health care workers in service delivery facilities in Tanzania. This has detrimental impact on the accessibility to quality healthcare provision at all levels.

The Mkapa Foundation applies multiple prong and multisectoral approaches in mitigating the HRH crisis in Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar through active policy advocacy and dialogue; HRH skills enhancement through cost effective and efficient modalities;HRH mapping exercises; co-creation, implementation and scale up of innovative HRH solution initiatives targeting both health facility/hospital and community based health workers.

Of significance milestone is BMF has so far created jobs to more than 13,000 health workers across the country in an innovative Public – Private Partnerships.

The availability of quality healthcare services is heavily reliant upon the availability of an adequate health workforce that can respond to the healthcare needs of a given population.
