Mkapa Legacy Leadership Award 2024
Arabia Kassim Mohamed from Matemwe Health Centre located in Kaskazini ‘A’ District of Kaskazini Region in Unguja. The leadership of Arabia transitioned the Matemwe HC and improved quality of RMNCAH service delivery indicators of which today number of facility deliveries increased from 0 in 2023 to 60 on June 2024, number of ANC first contacts below 12 weeks increased to 42% on the same period. Also, Long-term FP users have been reintroduced, with 22 FP continuing clients in Implant NXT and 15 Jedele continuing clients in the same period. New Family Planning indicator has raised to 103 in 2023 from 59 in 2021. These results signify the commitment and strong leadership role played by Arabia in mobilizing the community and the core workers to champion these changes. We honor this contribution in elevating the RMNCAH services in Zanzibar.
Mkapa Legacy Leadership Award, which focus on the transformative and adaptive leadership practices that led the team in addressing the challenges affecting the use, access, and/or provision of quality of health services, and which has brought positive sustainable results to the community.
This award is being offered for the first time through the Mkapa Legacy Initiative to recognize leadership excellence, inspire employee innovation, foster a culture of achievement and motivation.
The evaluation process for leadership awards considered the following criteria: leadership effectiveness, innovation, communication and collaboration with others, ethical practices, strategic vision, and stakeholder engagement that influenced RMNCAH performance in Zanzibar.
For Tanzania mainland the committee focused on the similar criteria on the performance of preparing and presenting best council comprehensive health plan, and health facility plans.
